The best beaches in Zambales: a local’s tour up the coast
Local perspective: written by the AmanDagat team in San Felipe, Zambales · Updated August 2026
Zambales faces due west into the South China Sea — a coastline of long grey-sand beaches, pine-backed coves and small islands, all within three to five hours of Manila. It has been the capital’s weekend escape for generations, but the way travellers experience it has changed: the best stays are no longer just a bed near the sand — the accommodation itself has become part of the getaway. Here is our tour of the coast we call home, from south to north.
San Felipe & the Sindol shore — our home
San Felipe is the quiet heart of the coast: a long, uncrowded beach, a gentle river-mouth surf break loved by beginners, and the still water of the Sindol Lagoon just behind the shore. Liwliwa, the town’s laid-back surf barangay, gives it a creative, unhurried spirit — and the sunsets here are the reason this province has a guide of its own.
Staying here: your own world by the coast
Full disclosure — this is where we live, and where AmanDagat Beach Resort takes a different approach to the traditional Zambales beach holiday. Instead of building the experience around shared facilities and busy common areas, each Dome Pearl Villa is a self-contained retreat with its own private swimming pool and spaces for relaxing, dining and simply spending time together. There is no need to plan the day around resort schedules. Swim when you want. Have breakfast late. Stay by the pool all afternoon. Open a bottle of wine with dinner. Do absolutely nothing, if that is what the day calls for.
The villas include fully equipped kitchens, so you can cook and eat in complete privacy — and bringing your favourite food and drinks is easy, with complimentary corkage. When cooking begins to feel suspiciously like work, A’Züla, our signature onsite restaurant, takes over. It is a setup that works beautifully for families and barkadas who want to be together without navigating public resort spaces, and for couples who want the outside world to disappear for a few days.
The name says it all: aman — peace and tranquillity — and dagat, the Filipino word for sea. The villa is not a base from which to visit Zambales; the villa is part of the destination.
Pundaquit, San Antonio
A fishing-village beach that serves as the jump-off point for the islands and coves below. The beach itself is pleasant; the boat rides from it are the main event.
Anawangin Cove
Zambales’ most famous cove — a crescent of pale sand backed by agoho trees that look uncannily like pines, reachable by boat from Pundaquit or a hot multi-hour hike. Camping is the tradition here; facilities are basic and that is the charm.
Nagsasa Cove
Anawangin’s bigger, quieter sibling, further down the same stretch. A longer boat ride buys you fewer crowds, a wider beach, and hills that turn gold in the late afternoon.
Capones & Camara Islands
The twin islands off Pundaquit. Capones carries a Spanish-era lighthouse on its spine — the short rocky climb up is worth it for the view back across the water to the mainland.
Crystal Beach, San Narciso
A surf-and-stay favourite just south of San Felipe, known for beginner-friendly waves and beachfront camping under the trees.
Subic & the southern bay
The classic. Subic was once what “beach near Manila” meant, and the bay still offers calm water, watersports and resort conveniences — busier and more built-up than the coast further north.
Iba & Botolan
The provincial capital and its neighbour share long, wide, often-empty grey-sand beaches. Unpretentious, local, and lovely for long walks.
Potipot Island, Candelaria
A tiny island a few minutes’ boat ride offshore — small enough to walk around in half an hour, ringed by pale sand and shallow, family-friendly water.
Magalawa Island, Palauig
Further north and further off most itineraries: a sandbar-fringed island with rustic stays, best for travellers happy to trade convenience for quiet.
